A Mighty Girl — An Awesome Site Review
Categories: Parenting

A Mighty GirlThis is one of the most awesome websites I have seen in a while.  How awesome you ask?  So awesome I wish I had thought of it myself!  I’ll let you read it in their own superbly awesome words:

A Mighty Girl is the world’s largest collection of books and movies for parents, teachers, and others dedicated to raising smart, confident, and courageous girls and, of course, for girls themselves!

After years of seeking out empowering and inspirational books for our four young nieces, we decided to create A Mighty Girl as a resource site to help others equally interested in supporting and celebrating girls. The site was founded on the belief that all children should have the opportunity to read books and watch movies that offer positive messages about girls and honor their diverse capabilities.

Girls do not have to be relegated to the role of sidekick or damsel in distress; they can be the leaders, the heroes, the champions that save the day, find the cure, and go on the adventure. It is our hope that these high-quality children’s products will help a new generation of girls to grow and pursue whatever dreams they choose — to truly be Mighty Girls!

Not only have they put together a great collection of books, but they have also tagged them by age, price, and categories.  They have put together some lovely “best of” lists  including  The Ultimate Guide to the Independent Princess.       I love the collection they have put together of books about women’s history.   (I’ve been just pulling up that list on my ipad while at the library and finding some great books to share with my girl.)   They have lists of books on different social issues, lists of award winners, and suggestions on how to put together your own Mighty Girl Book Club.  All this before you even get to the movie suggestions or places to purchase gender neutral or girl empowering clothing!

I personally like following them on Facebook and Pinterest because they publish things like a pick of  the day which makes it easy to discover new reads.

I love this site because I think it is important for our children, boys and girls, to see women and girls portrayed in a positive way.  Thank you Mighty Girl for helping us move forward!
