I am sure I’m not the only mama this has happened to….
A quiet evening at home, the night before school picture day…
Frankie: Mama, Look! (big smile)
Mama: AAAAHHHH. WHAT IS THAT IN YOUR HANDS!
Frankie: I cut my hair Mama! (still with the smile)
Mama: (puts her face in her hands and thinks about crying)
Frankie: What’s wrong, Mama?
Mama: Go to your room.
Frankie: (smile now gone and starting to cry) No, I don’t want to go to my room? Stay!
Mama: Frankie, we don’t cut our hair, we let the hair cutting lady do it.
Frankie: But Mama, I want to have short hair!
She actually didn’t do that bad of a job. She didn’t hack it all over, only the ends and the sides are almost even. Perhaps she’s found her calling?
Well, you don’t want her to be a pushover right? Clearly she knows what she wants and is willing to get it taken care of. I think this is okay. And it’s a great story.
Oh, gosh! Were you able to have her sit for the school pictures? I don’t know if the photo is your daughter, but it’s really cute …
Our kids haven’t surprised us with self-styling/cutting yet, but we did have an incident of them playing stylist. My son wrapped his blanket around my daughter and “buzzed” her hair with a wind-up car that made a sound like the clippers at the stylist. Unfortunately her hair wrapped up inside the turning wheels, and I had to cut it out!
